Late-Night & Early-Morning Incheon Airport Transport: What to Do When AREX and Airport Buses Aren’t Running

If your flight arrives very late at Incheon Airport, or you need to leave Seoul before the first AREX or airport bus starts running, don’t worry.

You still have a few practical options.

The easiest one is usually a taxi or a pre-booked airport transfer.


If You Arrive at Incheon Airport Late at Night

If the AREX and airport buses have already stopped running, you can take a taxi directly from the airport.

Incheon Airport has official taxi stands at both terminals, including standard taxis, international taxis, and pre-booked taxis. 

For foreign travelers, International Taxi and Smart Taxi are also available with foreign-language support. 

If you already use a taxi app, k.ride and Uber Taxi are also useful options in Korea.

k.ride is designed for foreign travelers, supports English, Japanese and Chinese, and allows overseas credit cards. Uber Taxi also works in Korea through the regular Uber app. 


If You Have a Very Early Flight




The same idea works in reverse.

If your flight is so early that the first AREX or airport bus does not give you enough time to reach the airport, you can call a taxi from your hotel or book a private airport transfer in advance.

For an early-morning departure, I would not wait until the last minute to figure this out.

If possible, arrange your ride the night before.

Watch Out for Late-Night Taxi Surcharges

Taxis in Seoul have late-night surcharges.

For Seoul taxis, the current surcharge is:

  • 22:00–23:00: 20%
  • 23:00–02:00: 40%
  • 02:00–04:00: 20%

So a late-night ride can cost noticeably more than the same trip during the day.

My Simple Recommendation

If public transport is still running, use AREX or an airport bus.

If it is not, I would choose between:

  • k.ride or Uber Taxi for a normal taxi
  • Official airport taxi when arriving at Incheon
  • Pre-booked private transfer if you want the easiest option
  • Airport hotel if your flight is extremely early and you prefer not to travel across Seoul overnight

For most travelers, there is no need to panic just because the trains or buses have stopped.

You just need to know your backup before you travel.
